Privacy policy

This policy explains what vids.fm collects when you use vids.fm, why, who it's shared with and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to make your clips and run your wallet. We don't sell your data and we don't run advertising trackers.

What we collect

  • Account details from Google sign-in: your name, email address and profile photo.
  • What you give us to make clips: product links, product names, prices and descriptions, photos, contact details you add to the end card, prompts, scripts and voice recordings.
  • What we make for you: scripts, images, videos and finished clips.
  • Wallet and payments: top-ups, charges and refunds, and the payment reference from Paystack. Paystack handles your card or M-Pesa details; we never receive them.
  • Technical data: your IP address, browser and device, and request logs. We use them to keep the service secure, apply rate limits and fix errors. Guest limits are counted with a hashed IP address and a cookie.
  • Reports you send about public clips, with your account or a hashed IP address.

Why we use it

  • To provide the service you ask for: research your product, write scripts and render clips (contract).
  • To charge and refund your wallet and keep accounting records (contract and legal obligation).
  • To prevent abuse, fraud and overuse, and to moderate public content (legitimate interests).
  • To improve vids.fm, for example by checking which clip lengths fail or cost too much (legitimate interests). We use your content to make your clips, not to train AI models.
  • To contact you about your account, payments or changes to our terms.

Who we share it with

Only with the services that make vids.fm work, and only what each one needs:

  • AI model providers through OpenRouter (such as xAI, ByteDance, Google, OpenAI and Anthropic): your prompts, scripts and photos, to generate text, images, voice and video.
  • Paystack: your email and the amount, to process payments.
  • Google: to sign you in. Our pages also load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address.
  • Hosting and storage providers: our servers and media storage.
  • Websites we research: when you paste a link or name a product, we fetch public pages about it. They see a request from our servers, not from you.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it, or to protect people from harm or fraud.

Some providers process data outside your country, including in the United States and the European Union. We use providers with appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

Public posts: clips and studio posts you share to the community can be seen by anyone, along with the product name and price on them. Your email is never shown.

Cookies

We use only cookies needed for the service to work:

  • a sign-in session cookie, so you stay signed in;
  • vf_guest, which counts free product lookups for visitors who aren't signed in;
  • currency, which remembers whether you see prices in KES or USD.

There are no analytics or advertising cookies, so there is no cookie banner. If we ever add analytics, we will ask first.

How long we keep it

  • Account details, clips and media: while your account is open. Deleting a clip removes it from your library and the community.
  • Wallet and payment records: as long as tax and accounting law requires, usually up to 7 years.
  • Shared product research (product facts, review summaries, photos found online): up to 30 days, then refreshed or removed.
  • Server logs: only as long as needed for security and fixing errors. Rate-limit counts: about an hour.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (for example under Kenya's Data Protection Act, the GDPR or US state laws), you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict some uses. Email hello@vids.fm and we will reply within 30 days. You can also delete clips yourself and make public posts private at any time. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to your data protection authority, such as Kenya's Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.

Security

We use encrypted connections, private storage with unguessable file links, limited staff access and rate limits. No system is perfectly secure. Media links work for anyone who has them, so share links to private clips with care.

Children

vids.fm is for people 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you think a child has used vids.fm, contact us and we will delete their data.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change and tell you in the app or by email about material changes.
